Chicken Karaage

Karaage

I tried out a new recipe that made the crispiest, tastiest, japanese friend chicken. It was super easy to make too.

Cooking Karaage

Ginger Tofu

I tried the chicken karaage ( 鶏肉から揚げ)recipe from 小林カツ代の基本のおかず. Usually I just do ginger, soy suace and sake, but the garlic and sesame seed kicks up the flavor a notch.

Ingredients:

Chicken breast or Thigh (1lb)

For the marinade:
1-2 cloves of grated garlic
1/2 tsp of sake
1.5 tbs soy sauce
1/2 tsp of sesame seed oil

1/3 cup of corn starch, oil for frying

Cut the chicken into bite size pieces. Cover with the marinade and let sit for a few minutes. Heat up the oil (I usually do not deep fry but add in about 1/2 worth into my frying pan.) Add in the corn starch and mix up the chicken, it will be very gummy. Fry in batches and eat immediately. I couldn’t stop myself from snacking as I cooked.

    1/2 tsp of sake
    1.5 tbs sake

Is this correct?? I suspect one of them is supposed to be the ginger?

Oops, thanks for catching that. I’ve fixed it. No ginger in this recipe, but it’s always a great addition!
